Jim completed his undergraduate work at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and continued on to the University of Miami Law School where he obtained his juris doctorate degree. Professional Information: David Avellar Neblett is a founding partner of Perry & Neblett P.A. and is a Board Certified Admiralty & Maritime law expert. Mr. Neblett earned a degree in the Marine Sciences from the University of Miami, and a J. D. in law from the University Of Miami School of Law with special emphasis in Admiralty and Insurance law. David has considerable Federal and State Court trial experience and heads Perry & Neblett’s litigation practice. David spent his time as a young lawyer working for insurance companies and representing their interests in bad faith and coverage disputes. As an attorney who has worked on both sides of insurance matters, he prides himself as a tough trial attorney that has a practical understanding of the insurance industry the internal workings of insurance companies. Mr. Neblett is very active boater and fisherman and he tries to fish as many fishing tournaments in Florida and in the Bahamas as his trial schedule permits. David is very involved in the community and has been a board a member or officer of the Miami Yacht Club for eight years. In addition to Mr. Neblett’s community service in Florida, he is also a board member of Wounded Nature Wounded Veterans, a national organization whose mission is to employ veterans in the preservation and cleanup of beaches, estuaries and coastal areas across the United States. Mr. Neblett is an avid fisherman, scuba diver, sailor and aquaculturist.
GINO J. BUTTÓ, Born in Hollywood, Florida, September 11, 1986; admitted to the bar, Florida, 2012; New York, 2014; U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Florida as well as the West District of New York. Education: University of Central Florida (B.S. 2009); University of Miami School of Law, Magna Cum Laude (J.D. 2012); Business Law Review (member). Professional Information: Gino earned his Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies from the University of Central Florida with a minor in Business Administration. Gino then earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Law where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was a walk-on member of the Business Law Review. During law school, Gino took numerous admiralty and insurance law. As an associate with Perry & Neblett, P.A., Gino has worked on various maritime and insurance related matters involving coverage determinations, hull claims, repairs to vessels, warranty claims, insurance coverage disputes, vessel collisions, yacht transportation and the arrest of vessels. Even as a young lawyer, Gino has prepared and successfully tried several cases in both federal and state court including three trials which resulting in defense verdicts for Perry & Neblett’s clients. As an accomplished tournament angler and U.S. Coast Guard licensed Captain, Gino enjoys spending his free time out on the water in addition to other outdoor activities such as playing golf and tennis.
JAMES M. MAHAFFEY III, Born in Austin, Texas, November 10, 1981; admitted to the bar, Florida, 2013. Professional Information: James received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin with a minor in Accounting. Prior to law school, James had a successful six-year sales career, beginning with an Austin telecom start-up before moving to Hoover’s Online, one of the most successful companies in Austin. Then, in 2010, James chose to pursue his dream to practice law, and to be his family’s “cousin in Miami.” James earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Law, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. James has worked on quite a number of insurance disputes and has been actively involved in insurance litigation in both State and Federal Courts. In addition to litigation of insurance matters, James has drafted and/or assisted with a number of coverage decisions. James has also assisted clients with construct disputes from breaches of construction agreements to warranty and failure claims and litigation.
